Prayers of the Faithful

17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

July 24/25, 2010

Presider:
Brothers and sisters, Jesus instructs us to pray for our daily bread, and to be persistent in our prayer. Let us dare to pray for more of what we need, for ourselves and for the needs of the world.

Lector:   Our response today is, “God of Heaven and Earth, hear our prayer.”

1.   We pray for more grace to make possible what seems impossible … for peace among nations … for unity among believers… for an end to poverty, famine and disease …for the conversion of those who do harm to others… for the salvation of every person … we pray,

2.   We pray for more justice...for better care for the earth...for the unemployed and underemployed...for an end to discrimination toward those who are “different”...we pray,

3.   We pray for more saints ... for leaders who put aside self-interest and guide us to do good … for inspiring examples and role models for our young people … for the courage to dare to be saints ourselves … we pray,

4.   We pray for more love … for forgiveness within families and communities … for gentleness in speech and in deed … for patience with the young and the elderly … for kindness to the stranger and the ones we take for granted … we pray,

5.   We pray for more blessings on all those who most need our prayers… for those whose lives are threatened … for those who do not know God or do not know how to pray …for those with no one to pray for them … we pray,

6.   We remember those who have died …especially
·        Susan Webster, the sister of Moira Webster-Larranaga
·        Rita Rael, the mother of Terrie Larwood
·        Elizabeth Gackenheimer, the mother of Fred Gackenheimer
·        Lugartha Vetsch, the wife of Jim Vetsch
·        George Guiracocha (Hor-hay Weera-cocha), the son of George and Germania Guiracocha (Hor-hay and Hermania Weera-cocha)

and for all who mourn the passing of a loved-one … we pray,

Presider:
God of Heaven and Earth, hear the prayers of your people. Give us this day and every day the joy of your presence. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Savior and our Lord. Amen.
