Baptism

For Catholics, the Sacrament of Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship.  At Baptism we receive and celebrate God's free gift of grace and salvation through Jesus Christ.  In Baptism we are reminded that God has chosen us to live and grow with God's people.  As the first Sacrament of initiation, Baptism is also the sign of a lifelong relationship with God and with the Church. 

When parents present their child for baptism, they are asking the Church to receive the child as part of the family of Jesus Christ.  They are also making a commitment to their child to help him or her become part of this community of faith.  At baptism parents are told to "make it their constant care to bring up their child in the practice of the faith."

The Catholic Church today clearly teaches that sacraments out to be presented only to persons with identifiable indicators of faith.  With infant baptism these indicators must come from the parents.  Risen Savior takes the responsibility to prepare, nurture and support parents as they prepare to bring their child to the Baptismal font very seriously.  We offer Baptism preparation classes for infants and children up to four years of age on the first Monday of every month from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.  At the class parents will have a chance to meet other expectant and new parents from the parish and share ideas and interests with them.  There will also be an opportunity to ask questions, to go over the Rite of Baptism, and to discuss some the symbols used during Baptism. 

Contact the parish office at (952) 431-5222 to register for a Baptism class.  The classes are for parents only; child care is provided upon request.  You have to be a registered member of Risen Savior parish to have your child baptized at this parish.  If you are not a registered member, please attend one of our "New Member Registration" sessions; for details and dates, click here.  You may also register in the parish when you attend Baptism class.
